Family Learning at Dordon
Our families have been in and out of school for many reasons of late. We pride ourselves on the communication we have with families at Dordon and we plan events throughout the year so loved ones can come in and share school life with their children.
Spelling Shed
KS2 parents have been invited into school to take part in their children's spelling lessons. We have adopted a new approach to spelling in Years 3-6 and we want parents to be part of the process. Spelling Shed uses word lists and engaging activities to incorporate phonics and meaning to strengthen spelling skills and build vocabulary acquisition across all KS2 year groups. We thought it was important for families to come into school to see how the lessons work and mirror this at home too. Fun was had by all!
Family Lunch
Each term we select families to come into school to participate in their child's learning and then they eat lunch together in the hall. After the initial shock of seeing 30 children stare at you as you walk into the classroom, I think parents enjoyed the classroom experience with their children.
Story Sacks
Cheryl from Warwickshire Family Learning has returned to Dordon this year and she is currently holding a 'Story Sack' workshop with KS1 families. It is a lovely way to get creative with your child and promote a love of reading.
Year 6 Class Assembly
Falcon class showcased their learning all about the slave trade to their parents yesterday in a very powerful and thought provoking assembly. Each half term, a different class hold their own assembly to share their learning with family members and it is always a positive experience for all.
