Reading
World Book Day is so much more than dressing up. It’s about conveying to our young people how powerful reading can be. A lot of children feel that reading is something that is just for school. They don’t see how they need it in real life, and they certainly don’t see how anyone could get any sort of pleasure from it. I always tell the children that they are yet to find the right book if they think reading is a chore.
Let us remember, fact books, graphic novels, plays, poetry and even song lyrics can also be part of our reading lists. Fiction writing may not excite some children so it is important we find out what does engage them. Reading is a skill that must be mastered to help us discover the world, therefore reading regularly is imperative.
This week, we had children from Years 5 & 6 take part in the CAT reading quiz at The Polesworth School, we celebrated World Book Day and Peacock class went on their first school trip to the National Arboretum, and participated in an activity day based on Julia Donaldson’s, Stick Man!
